The Sleeping for Tomorrow project is a social art project created by the Israeli-German visual artist
  Amit Goffer

It is important for the world to hear your thoughts. Share your significant thoughts with others,
and most importantly, stay connected to others and yourself.

Background:

Facing unpredicted worldwide uncertainty and changes, we discover significant internal and external changes that effect
all human beings: strong emotions arise such as stress and overwhelming hope, just to name a few.

We strive to communicate in ways we never thought we would need, which are now a necessity in our current daily lives.

The unfolding global story of the pandemic and has raised questions about our values, and the validity of familiar norms which we lived by and believed in. There is a global search for the “new” stable and the “new” consistent, in this world whose story is still being written as we speak.

Project goals:

The aim of this work is to connect you and others all over the world in the name of art and people. It brings people closer together, reflecting on the past, the present and beyond.

It also tries to connect people from different countries, religions and life stages and to create communication between people.
It dreams of a new vision of the world, the environment, and everyone within it.

This is a work in progress that will continue for at least until the end of 2023.

It is developing daily with new features and information (con-necting the physical and digital worlds together, conversations and discussions-ideas about art and emotionality in our time, behind-the-scene stories, videos, information on how the work was created and changed over time)

Through my art experience I had the privilege to meet so many different people in different places. They all have their own particular stories, feelings and life experiences.

Our stories seem similar, no matter where we are, there is a common ground for all of us, with bigger and more meaningful moments once we are connected.

Development and timeline of the project

This social art project contains three parts:

more info in Sleeping for Tomorrow website

Part 1. Physical part: started May 2021

This part of the work is a real German WW2 one-man bunker that was saved from destruction by the Israeli-German artist Amit Goffer.

The Bunker underwent changes that allow the viewer to experie-nce different physical and emotional situations. By inviting audience participation, the work takes on a performative dimension that becomes further interpreted and realized through interaction – for the visitor and others.

There is a button which, when pressed, can record their voices in order to share a significant moment with others. At the same time, the visitor also can listen to the recorded voices and messages from other visitors.

Next step:

* This part, the bunker, is being exhibited in the sculpture garden Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster Aachen, Germany. From the beginning of May 2022 is free to move to a new location.

Part 2. Virtual part: online from the middle of September 2021

Connecting the physical and digital worlds together.

The internet permits new possibilities for communication.
For example, with the use of digital software connected to the world wide web we can go into virtual amorphous bended space.
Via a website created by the artist, visitors can enter and exit this virtual bunker, explore the surrounding areas and the new experience.

In this bunker on the website, there is also a feature that can connect to people all over the world to hear, record, and share photos of a spark of our own experience, short significant moments in places that we feel with ourselves and others.

With the help of a bespoke recording system located inside the physical bunker and the digital software on the website, people inside the bunker and the internet can hear and record the voices of themselves and other people as well as share images and memories, connecting to the greater story of us all.

*The development of a virtual map shown in the website:
This map feature connects all of the countries that people went into using the virtual project, and also connects the people that joined and reacted to the physical bunker parameters.

The interaction by countries and locations, visitors in “real life”, virtual visitors and physical activity are shown in the map.

These features were released during the middle of January 2022

For the map

* By collaborating with the project either physically or virtually, there is a visual platform that shows new networks. This virtual network shows different events and engagement with cultural institutions, conversations and interviews.

Next steps:

* development of more installations with recording and hearing boxes similar to the one installed in the one-man bunker in significant urban/natural places all over the world. Possible development in cooperation with the communities of the regions.

This collaboration also includes building it on-site by the local involved people, also bringing the uniqueness of the history into account when building a site-specific installation.

In all of the installations there will be one thing similar: it is a place situated inside the space, but still has a connection to the outside world and also will become part of the global project system that is reflected in the animation on the website.

The vision is to create the connection of a worldwide network of human voices and emotions by embracing and merging the physical and virtual spaces.

**Currently, we are searching for project partners who are interested to either share the webspace, temporarily install the WW2-bunker / new
site-specific installations in specific locations with recording and hearing boxe, recording and hearing boxe**
